It’s Always the Simple Things

jer-edit

Many times, it’s the small things, the simple things that are most precious to you. Jeremy, the middle son of our office assistant Debi and one of my surrogate sons, is taking baby steps towards recovery. The swelling in his brain has diminished. The cranial pressure has subsided. He is no longer sedated and is breathing on his own without a ventilator several hours a day. And best of all, the Doherty Family is back in Idaho. His transfer to the Treasure Valley from Yakima has been approved.

That’s all good news and for Debi and Greg, the simple things of being among loved ones, sleeping in their own bed and having some semblance of normal again will ease the burden a little. Yet it appears long days and months of therapy and prayer remain. Jeremy is awake for part of the day now, but not really awake yet.

Thank you so much for your prayers, cards and words of encouragement. Please don’t stop. And if you would like to know more, go to our website at www.895ktsy.org.

The Powerless Fixer

jeremywall

It doesn’t matter if it’s at work, at home, at church, in my friend’s lives or in my family’s life; I have a reputation as a fixer of problems. If something comes up, be it taxes, computers, household repairs or life questions, I’m frequently the go to guy. I’ll have to admit I kind of relish the role, though it frustrates Wanda when I try to solve her problems without permission. It’s just that I’m a doer, not a stand around and watch kind of guy.

As I stood in the ICU in Yakima Regional Medical Center a few days ago, I was powerless to fix it as I looked at the son of a best friend, one of my surrogate sons, lying in a coma after a motorcycle accident. Powerless as Jeremy’s dad wept on my shoulder for his baby boy. Helpless to fix the problem as Jeremy’s mom and brothers did the same.

As tears rolled down my cheeks, though, I knew, even though I was powerless, my God was not and an answer to our trouble was on the way. God’s people, the KTSY Family and others across the country were beginning to pray and respond to Jeremy and his family. There are hundreds of cards on the wall of Jeremy’s room now, many that start with “you don’t know me but, I heard on the radio and we’re praying for you and your family.” They are a witness to God’s love through his people.

From one small part of the Family to the greater Family, thank you. Please don’t stop.
