Three Simple Steps

th4h

I attended the Dave Ramsey Town Hall for Hope last Thursday, along with at least another million people apparently. As I listened to what Dave had to say, providing statistics, historical facts and some encouragement to put the current economic downturn into perspective, the three action steps he delineated could apply to many areas of my life, not just finances. Here they are. See what you think.

First, get up and take action. In other words, quit allowing the bad news hype to wash over you. Get up off the couch and do something.

Number two, stop listening to loser talk. Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 9 the words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him that rules among fools.  In other words, the masses are frequently wrong. Be careful who you believe.

And number three, start giving. Dave says that learning how to give—whether it’s money, time or support—changes your whole mindset. You’re focused on something other than yourself. Luke recorded Jesus’ words on the subject as this “Give, and it will be given to you. A large quantity, pressed together, shaken down, and running over will be put into your lap, because you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others.” God blesses us, in part, by the same standard we bless others.

Sure makes me think about my concerns and priorities the past few months. Thank you for your prayers and support of KTSY; helping us to help others stay focused on what’s truly important and who’s truly in charge.

Tatooed & Pierced and Wearings Suits & Ties

Hands together

I was working on the KTSY Facebook page the other day and decided to take a spin through the fans section, just to see who was there. At almost nine hundred, it took me a couple of minutes.

Do you know what I found? All sizes and shapes and colors, with dark hair and light hair and no hair, men and women and children, tattooed and pierced and wearing suits and ties, most with smiles on their faces. In short, I found 1 Corinthians 12, “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.”

There is so much to this simple statement from Paul. But I think the strongest applications serve as a reminder we are never alone, we have responsibilities to each other and we can do so much more together that we can alone.

If you’re feeling isolated and alone today, remember, we are the body of Christ.

Yes or No? Left or Right?

Decision

Sometimes, it’s the difference between yes and no or right and left. One decision can change the flow of your life.

Nineteen years ago this week, Wanda, Caleb and Daniel accompanied me to Idaho. We arrived sight unseen on April 4th, 1990, having never visited before accepting the job of building and leading out at KTSY. I knew I had made a mistake and Wanda knew this was where God wanted us. Turns out, maybe she was right. To say that yes changed the flow of a life would be a great understatement.

I took the time this week to look back on almost two decades of ups and downs, yeses and no’s, lefts and rights, mistakes and triumphs amid days of feeling all alone and being surrounded by thousands.

I find myself humbled and amazed it all stems from one simple yes voiced almost twenty years ago. God is so very good. Thank you for your faithfulness in playing your part of this miracle story that is KTSY. Only in eternity will we see how God has used our yes and no, left and right, up and down for His glory.

I’m just most thankful He wants us along for the ride.
