Mumblings

I Am With You Always

Wanda and I snuck away for an “empty nester” trip to Salt Lake City last weekend. I scored a dirt-cheap hotel room on Priceline and two tanks of gas got us an overnighter so she could wander the aisles of her two favorite stores, IKEA and Hobby Lobby. We didn’t have much money to spend, but it was a nice break from the everyday. The highlight for me, besides time pushing her cart, of course, was hours and hours of bright, radiant, beautiful sunshine. We proved its existence south of Twin Falls.

Sometimes I find my life as inverted, gray and dreary as the weather has been. I forget that behind all of the trouble, all of the concerns, all of the gray that surrounds me, shines the face of my Savior and God. I believe the Devil works hard to cloud our life, to obscure the light, to make us think we’re alone and lost. He’s called the Father of Lies for good reason, since nothing could be further from the truth.  My Bible says, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Good news indeed.

So the next time you’re outside, look up and smile, knowing that despite the gray around you, God is smiling down on you, His beautiful child and you are surrounded by the sunshine of His love.

The Year in Review

It’s January and the beginning of a new year. And as is my habit, I’m taking a look back at the past year and thinking about what might be in store for the year to come. Not that these musings matter much, since I’m frequently wrong. I guess it makes me feel like I’m doing my part.

First and foremost, it reminds me that none of the glory from what happens here belongs to us. And second, none of what happens at KTSY is something we can accomplish by ourselves. We’re a needy bunch and are so very thankful for your support and participation.

And finally, a big thank you goes to everyone who was a financial partner in 2008. Remember in April when we had $14 in our checking account? At the end of December, our total donations were up more than eight percent compared to 2007. In the worst economic conditions in a generation.  God is so very good.

Thank you for making the KTSY Family a priority in your lives. I can hardly wait to see what God has in store for us in 2009.
