Just a Simple Note is All That’s Needed
Tears were streaming down her cheeks as she told the story of her sponsor, how for most of her life this wonderful man from America had supported her through Compassion International, all through school and now into college. A major investment to be sure. But the tears were for something different.
Through his seventeen years of sponsorship, she had only received one letter.
I was stunned, frankly, not that he had only written a single letter but that it mattered so very much to her. I’ve always had the impression that letters from my sponsored child was just something child sponsorship organizations made the kids do to make the donor feel better about their contribution, kind of like a homework assignment.
Nothing could be further from the truth apparently, as all of the young people we talked to said they longed to hear from their sponsors.
So, as a sponsor who has had the privilege of visiting the home of a sponsored child and seen the letters and pictures on the shelf, take a moment today and write a short note. Send a picture of your family, something to remind them someone cares about them and is praying for them.
Trust me, tears will flow again on the face of your sponsored child, but for a very different reason.
